Lawn Care Notes

For preventing crabgrass:

Info from Youtube: Pest and Lawn Ginja, What's the best pre Emergent? Pre Emergent how to and DIY

Pre Emergent: has to go down with water

microbes in soil break down pre emergent. So when soil temps are cold, the pre emergent can do it's work before the microbes break it down

55* is when crabgrass germenates so get pre emergent down early

Myth in industry is that it's too cold to put down. Avoid any months where it's abover 90* daily. But anything under 80* should still work.

Products:

Prodiamine 65 wdg (goes on thick). Great product but might gum up sprayer

-early spring, march april, soil temps 35-45* and let it sit there

dithiopyr 2L (can get deeper into soil with water). Wont gum up sprayer, but if you get a lot of rain you're going to need to reapply because it leaches down into the soil

-around May 1st when we start to see crab grass appear because it contains some post emergent control

If you don't know what you're doing, put both products down in the Fall. And then again int he spring. They'll just sit there over fall and winter.

Or be more accurate and buy a digital meal thermometer that has a probe that can go 3" into the lawn

DEALING WITH CLOVER IN LAWN

Apply weekly (so it's easy to apply) - ortho weed b gone with hose attachment sprayer.

-put on water setting to get an idea of the spray pattern. Be sure to avoid flowers, fruits, etc
